When individuals or businesses are dealing with a serious property loss, they often need clear answers as much as they need strong legal representation. Andrew Mercer’s practice is built around helping policyholders resolve complex insurance coverage disputes and pursue the compensation available under their policies.

As head of the property damage practice at Preszler Injury Lawyers, Andrew works exclusively in this area. He assists clients with denied and underpaid property insurance claims arising from events such as fires, flooding, extreme weather, and other substantial losses. His experience also extends beyond property damage claims to many other areas of insurance law, including automobile coverage, commercial general liability, errors and omissions policies, directors and officers insurance, crime and dishonesty coverage, title insurance, and a variety of commercial policies.

Andrew previously acted for insurers early in his career. That experience gave him a strong understanding of how insurance companies interpret policy wording, investigate losses, and defend disputed claims. Today, he acts solely for policyholders and is committed to helping them recover after devastating events.

His practice includes appearances before all levels of Ontario court, as well as work in commercial arbitration. Andrew is also highly experienced in appraisal proceedings and has acted in multiple roles within that process, including as appraiser, umpire, and counsel on judicial review matters involving appraisal awards.

Beyond litigation, Andrew has a longstanding academic interest in insurance law. He has co-authored leading legal texts, including Introduction to Canadian Insurance Law and Auto Insurance Coverage Law in Ontario, and contributed the “Security for Costs” chapter to Civil Practice and Procedure in Ontario. He has also written academic articles and taught Civil Procedure at Western University as an adjunct professor.

Outside the office, Andrew spends much of his free time with his two young children and enjoys playing guitar.
