Matthew Cleary
Personal Injury Lawyer
Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Matthew Cleary brings a diverse educational and professional background to his legal practice. Before pursuing law, he studied a wide range of subjects at the University of Victoria, including sciences, humanities, social sciences, and languages. He ultimately earned a degree in anthropology with a focus on cultural anthropology and ethnography.
Matthew developed a strong interest in tort law during law school, which shaped the direction of his legal career from his articling years onward. Since being called to the British Columbia Bar in 2009, he has concentrated his practice on personal injury and plaintiff-side tort litigation.
Matthew is passionate about advocating for injured individuals and helping clients through difficult periods in their lives. He is committed to pursuing fair outcomes and believes that personal injury law is ultimately about standing up for people who need dedicated support and representation in their hardest moments.
Outside the office, Matthew enjoys travelling, gardening, hiking, fishing, and spending time with his family and dog. He is also an avid sports fan who enjoys watching the Whitecaps and BC Lions, and he has a strong interest in languages, including Bahasa Indonesian and Spanish.
